Where Anchor Links Work in Squarespace
Squarespace supports anchor links inside most modern section types, including:

If you’re working with blog posts, events, portfolio pages, or store pages, you can’t attach an anchor link directly to those sections. The workaround is simple: add a blank section above the area you want to link to, place your anchor there, and use that as your jump point.
How to Set Up an Anchor Link
Creating an anchor link happens in two parts. First, you create the anchor itself. Then, you create the link that points to it.
Step 1: Create the anchor link slug
Open the page and click Edit.
Hover over the section you want to link to and select Edit Section.
Look for the Anchor Link field. Enter your slug text here. Squarespace automatically adds the hashtag and converts spaces to dashes.
Click the Copy Link icon to copy the full anchor URL to your clipboard. This will use your primary domain. If you don’t have one yet, it will use your built‑in Squarespace domain.
Your anchor is now created and ready to use.
Step 2: Create the link that points to the anchor
You can link to an anchor from text, buttons, images, or navigation items. Here’s the simplest example using a text link.
Add a text block anywhere on the page.
Type the text you want to turn into a link.
Highlight it and click the link icon.
Paste the anchor URL you copied earlier into the URL field. It will look something like:

Press Enter.
Your link is now active and will jump visitors directly to the section you anchored.
Step 3: Save and publish
Click Save to publish your changes. Your anchor link is now live and ready for visitors to use.
Linking to the Top or Bottom of a Page
Anchor links are perfect for long pages where you want to help visitors move around quickly.
Linking to the top
Add an anchor slug to the first section on the page. Many people simply use “top”.
Add a link at the bottom of the page that points to that slug.
Use text like “Back to top” and keep the new‑tab toggle off.
Save your changes.
Linking to the bottom
Add an anchor slug to the last section of the page or to your footer. “Bottom” works well as a slug.
Add a link somewhere higher on the page that points to it.
Use text like “Go to footer”.

Linking to Sections That Don’t Support Anchors
If you’re working with a section type that doesn’t allow anchor slugs, you can still create the same effect.
Add a blank section directly above the section you want to link to.
Add your anchor slug to the blank section.
If the blank section creates too much space, open its settings and turn off Fill Screen.
Save your changes.
Visitors will land exactly where you want them to, even though the anchor is technically placed one section higher.
Limitations and Best Practices
Anchor links are simple, but there are a few things to keep in mind.
Slugs must be unique on each page. If two sections use the same slug, the link won’t behave correctly. Slugs can’t contain spaces. Squarespace automatically converts spaces to dashes. Your slug becomes visible in the browser URL when someone clicks the link, so choose something you’re comfortable showing publicly. If you ever change your domain, page slug, or anchor slug, update your links. Old URLs won’t work.
Anchor Links on Squarespace 7.0
Version 7.0 doesn’t support section‑based anchor links, but you still have options.
You can manually create anchors using code blocks in any content area. Some templates include built‑in index page anchors, which work similarly to section anchors in 7.1.
